Red overgown, first fitting
I spent some time doing handsewing over the holidays, so the red gown is starting to look more like a dress. Sleeves were mocked up in muslin before cutting - they're fairly basic fitted sleeves, with a flare at the wrist. With sleeves cut from some of the odder shaped remnants, I still had a full fabric width in a generous waist-to-hem length for the back skirt. (Orginally 54" wide, but significantly less after shrinkage.) The back skirt is pleated onto the back bodice with simple, deep pleats. Then, with the long side seams sewn up, it's time to check in on fit and make final adjustments to the armscye before setting the sleeves. I feel like it's looking good at this point - might trim a little more bulk out of the upper sleeve, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with it.
